How surfboard deck grips work
Simply put, a surfboard grip is there to give you some extra traction beyond just sex wax. Grips help you anchor your foot on the back of the board as you push through turns. Surfboard tail pads can come in a variety of shapes and materials. While a one-piece tail pad is the easiest to install, two or three-piece surf pads can give you more freedom to customise your traction points on the shape of your board. Ultimately though, the choice comes down to what feels the best under your feet.
Finding what surfboard traction pads work best for you comes down to personal preference and the way you like to ride waves. If you’re all about clocking air time and aren’t much of a fan of wax, a front grip pad is a suitable choice for you. If your footwork tends to be pretty dynamic or you find yourself bringing your feet towards the front of the board a lot, a foot arch might not be the go-to for you. A foot arch will give you more comfort when you slam your foot down at the back of the board though.
