Why Choose Our Longboard Fins

FYI, a longboard fin isn't just a bigger version of a shortboard fin. It's a different beast. More surface area, more length, built for hold, drive and glide (rather than sharp, snappy turning). The biggest talking point with longboard fins is raked versus pivot.

  • Raked fins: More curve swept back, which means they hold beautifully through noserides and long stretches of trim

  • Pivot fins: Straighter and turn tighter, so they suit a more progressive, dynamic style

Neither's better. It just depends how you like to surf your log.

Then there's the setup. A single fin is the traditional choice. It's what most classic noseriding is built around. A 2+1 adds two small side fins either side of the main box, giving you extra hold and control when the surf gets bigger or punchier or steeper.

Size matters too. Your fin should be matched to your board length and your weight. Go too big and it can feel stiff and stubborn. Too small and you'll lose hold when you need it most. If you're not sure, our team's happy to help you match fin to board.

One last thing before you buy. Check your box. Most longboard fins run a US box or an FCS/FCS II system, so confirm what your board's fitted with first. Our range covers Captain Fin Co, True Ames, CJ Nelson, Endorfins and the FCS II Harley Ingleby models.

Frequently Asked Questions About Our Longboard Fins

What is the difference between a raked and pivot longboard fin?

A raked fin has more curve swept back toward the tail, which gives you better hold through noserides and trim. A pivot fin is straighter upright, so it turns tighter and suits a more progressive style. Raked for classic glide, pivot for sharper direction changes.

What size fin should I use on my longboard?

Fin size should match your board length and your weight. As a rough guide, longer and heavier means a bigger fin. Oversized fins can feel stiff, undersized ones lose hold. If you're between sizes, our team can match a fin to your exact board.

Do I need a single fin or a 2+1 setup?

A single fin is the traditional noseriding setup and keeps things clean and classic. A 2+1 adds two small side fins for extra hold and control, which helps in bigger or punchier surf. Both work well. It comes down to how and where you surf.

Will a longboard fin fit any fin box?

Not always. Most longboard fins use either a US box or an FCS/FCS II system. They aren't interchangeable. Check what your board's fitted with before you buy or ask us and we'll confirm compatibility for you.

What are the available delivery options?

We ship all fins fast via Australia Post, usually dispatched within one business day. Larger and bulky items go with Startrack Express. Local to the South Coast? Select free in-store pickup from our Gerringong surf shop.
